SAFETY FIRST

The first group we had come in were good, but we soon realized that even they were not enough. I did a quick training class with them, and sent them out to the floor. Then I called Jimmy. The temporary staffing was a solution, but we still needed more. I asked him to call around again. He said he would in the afternoon. Meanwhile I went out on the floor and tried to make sure all the new people were in place and comfortable. A few asked questions, but most got right down to the work. I had given each team member about 10 of them to supervise. The next day I asked to see the production and shipping reports. We were still way behind. I called Jimmy again. He said that a new group would be arriving tomorrow morning. On Saturday, I asked. He said that they would be there. I wondered. Meanwhile, we had a slight injury on the floor. Nothing serious, but it made me call a halt to things while I went over basic safety again. It took about a half hour to run through it again. I thought about showing the safety video again, but I'm not sure it would be any better than my hammering the safety points home.
