This was pretty serious, so we decided to get a personal injury attorney in Los Angeles. It didn't look bad to begin with, but as the week wore on out there complications began to develop. I called my lawyer back here and he said that we would have to call an attorney in Los Angeles. He was not able to practice in California. My wife looked at me. We really didn't want to get involved this way. We just wanted a lawyer to write a letter. Now we would have to somehow find a lawyer while being over 2000 miles away. I went online first and spent the better part of a morning reading through all the profiles. After a while they all started to look the same. Finally, I just took a chance and called one that had a nice but understated web site. My thinking along those lines went that if they had a flashy web site they would probably have a huge upfront fee, or that they would take a huge chunk of any money we got. I called and he answered the phone. We got to talking and he said he was originally from back here. I learned later that he grew up only a mile or so away from here. Small world. He knew some of the same people in the neighborhood that I did. That made me feel a little more at ease. We talked some more, this time about the case. He thinks we might have some good grounds. He would look into several things and get back to us. I finally asked him about his fee.
